At BoroughBox, we love to learn about the roots and practises behind the producers we work with. We immerse ourselves all day with food and drink products that have an powerful, ethical journey. We speak to MightBee, a producer we have recently met, to find out about their fascinating range of coconut products.
BB: MightyBee has a strong ‘honest’ ethos. The brand is built on the belief that the products made should be harmonious with nature. Can you tell us why ‘honesty is the best policy’?
MB: Honest is one of three ethos of MightyBee, together with Caring and Peaceful. We believe in Food Democracy – our inherent right to know and grow exactly what we eat. In an industry where there is a general sense of distrust towards those providing what we eat and drink, MightyBee is proud to boast a socially minded team who understands that businesses can also act ethically as a force for good.
We are our own customers, we will never provide a product that we wouldn’t love to eat or drink ourselves. Trends will disappear and technologies will advance, but what will never change is the goodness of nature’s harvest. Our aim is to produce honest future foods that our children will continue to enjoy.
BB: It’s true to say, MightBee comes as nature intended; your coconut range has nothing added and nothing removed. As a process, what challenges does this present, if any?
MB: We pride ourselves on our ethical values – there has been no compromise on the ingredients we use, or where they are sourced. Being Soil Association Certified ensures we are using only the best natural and organic ingredients, which does mean the price of our products is higher, but than in turn relates to us paying our farmers 3 times more. This ensures they have a sustainable business, and from that they are able to reinvest this into a profitable business. In our minds, as our business thrives, we do all that we can to ensure that those associated with MightyBee grow also.
BB: So you really get what you pay for. We praise your advocation of fair trade. We’ve read up that your coconuts are grown in Ratchaburi, Thailand and that the nurturing of relationships with local farmers, with respect and sensitivity, comes as a high priority to you. Can you tell us, why you feel this is so important?
MB: In our search for the world’s tastiest coconut, we explored every corner of Southeast Asia, eventually arriving in Ratchaburi, Thailand, where we discovered the extraordinary Nam Hom coconut. Not only does the local blend of water and soil help to nurture an intense and unique sweetness in the fruit which was unlike anything we had ever tasted, what really made us fall in love with these young, green coconuts was the way they are lovingly grown and expertly harvested by local farmers who are immensely proud of their produce.
We are giving our followers the chance to win some of the MightyBee products. If you fancy a try for yourself, please head over to our Instagram page now and follow the entry instructions.Love BB x
