So, the Great British Bake Off has returned to the BBC to tickle our taste buds and get us well and truly hooked in our first nationwide seasonal ‘countdown to Christmas’ type nail-biting show. We don’t get to vote but we do get to share the tension, agony and pregnant pauses.
Baking has seen a renaissance in recent times with even David Cameron getting in on the act. We arrived at Bread week this time and contestants faced a variety of issues from raw dough to soggy bottoms … not your toddler clothes but that dastardly base! Thousands tuned in to watch Jordan piece together his offering of strawberry and raspberry cheesecake brioche. His maverick effort was mocked by viewers and alas he crashed out of the game!
Here at BoroughBox you may not know it but we have a nicely growing little Artsian Bakery of our own offering a variety of scrumptious goods from some brilliant vendors. You can find a cracking little Bread Starter Kit, and even an Artisan Seeded Flowerpot Bread Making Kit (check it out – it’s very funky). Or for the more serious sweet toothed baker there’s a whole range of Brownie & Cake Making Kits which make perfect gifts for yourselves, others or having fun with the kids. Perhaps when you return to work in the next week or two you should treat your colleagues to one of the amazing Mug Brownies!!
Anyway, whether you’re looking to learn, teach, or just have a bit of fun in the kitchen, we have the perfect little ‘Great British Baking’ product for you.
(p.s) fact of the day: Andy, our owner here at BoroughBox, actually had a nice little chat with Paul Hollywood when he was filming the 2012 Bake Off and did an early morning shoot in Borough Market. They chatted about Brendan, Waitrose contracts, and other such idle gossip that only men can muster. Andy says Paul seems like a very nice chap … although he didn’t buy anything from the butchery, which was disappointing!
