National Liquorice Day
April 12th divides the world
Even more than Marmite… are you a lover or a hater?
or some might say Licorice…
It can’t even decide how to spell itself!!
Personally, I sit on the fence a bit… wouldn’t eat it straight but love it with some extra sugary goodness wrapped around it and it is a very useful and distinct flavour when describing certain aromas, tastes or smells in wines or Asian cooking.
Well today (as long as you are reading this on the 12th of April) is the day to feel the love for all things liqourice!
So if you fancy something a little bit sweet, why not chew on some licorice for Liqourice Day. Licorice is enjoyed by people across the globe and it has a truly, very, very distinctive flavour.
The day itself? Meh! Merely trying to monetise their product! Liqourise Day was created by Licorice International in 2004 and Licorice Day celebrates the rich history of black licorice. Not sure where it comes from? Well licorice is extracted from the licorice plant and can be used for sweets, to flavour a drink (licorice tea is a popular example) and also has medicinal purposes.
Its flavour is loved by many people, from children to the older generation (personally my Granddad was very partial to a box of All Sorts), so Licorice Day could well be a big hit with your family, whatever their ages. Pick up some Bassetts on the way home!
…and if you are after some other Liquorice inspiration there are a number of ways to enjoy liqourice flavours from the strong to the subtle that you can pick up on the BoroughBox marketplace. Some great ways you can share the enjoyment of Licorice with your friends and family include the following awesome products.
